Hamlet Response Journal

1. I think that I haven't quite gotten used to the language and the choice of words that is being used in the story but I find the story pretty interesting. Act One was basically like introducing the characters and the story line. In act one, Hamlet is disappointed about the loss of his father and how his mother decides to marry Claudius, his uncle who also happens to be the one to kill Hamlet's father.

2a. In act two, Hamlet is appearing to be mad. His father's death and his uncle taking his father's place has driven him insane. I think I can relate to this because I wouldn't like it. His uncle murdered his father and then took his place on the thrown. He loved his father and he loves Ophelia but people have told Ophelia to stay away from him because they assume he is crazy.

2b. I don't quite understand the language that Shakespeare uses but I understand what is going on in the story. I can imagine the characters' emotions by the way that the words are expressed.

2c. Since Hamlet is simply upset about losing his father and the throne to his uncle, he doesn't know why he would want to live anymore. But he holds on because he doesn't want to hurt his mother.

3. Sometimes, the language that he uses simply confuses me. I don't understand what he is trying to tell us but   I like the part in act one when they see the ghost. It expresses the emotions of the characters really well.

4. In this story, I don't like how Polonius feels about Hamlet. He doesn't have a reason to feel that way. Hamlet has been going through a lot and Polonius just assumes that he is going crazy. I don't like how he told Ophelia to stay away from Hamlet when it is her choice whether she still wants to be with him or not.
